Polycrystalline and single crystalline Ce$$_2$$Pt$$_6$$Al$$_{15}$$ samples were synthesized and characterized using EPMA, XRD, XAS and magnetization measurements. The valence of Ce in this compound is trivalent, in agreement with magnetic susceptibility and XAS spectra. The analysis of EXAFS spectra indicates the formation of a honeycomb lattice rather than the disordered hexagonal structure.

$$s$$波共鳴と$$p$$波共鳴の混合に起因するParity violationの増幅が観測されている$$^{131}$$Xe+nにおける3.2eV共鳴からのガンマ線の中性子エネルギーに依存する角度分布を測定した。$$p$$波共鳴からのガンマ線の遷移を同定し、1807keVの終状態に遷移する7132keVガンマ線の角度分布を評価した。この角度分布は$$s$$波共鳴と$$p$$波共鳴の干渉による結果と考えられており、複合核におけるParity violationの増幅メカニズムの理解に役立つ。

静水圧や化学圧力は、結晶構造を変化させる効率的な刺激であり、材料科学において電気的、磁気的特性のチューニングによく利用されている。しかし、化学圧力は定量化が困難であり、これら両者の定量的な対応関係はまだよくわかっていない。本研究では、負の熱膨張(NTE)を持つ永久磁石の候補である金属間化合物を調べた。放射光X線その場観察により、AlをドープしたHo$$_2$$Fe$$_{17}$$に負の化学圧力があることを明らかにし、単位セル体積の温度・圧力依存性を用いそれを定量的に評価した。また、磁化測定と中性子回折測定を組み合わせることで、磁気秩序に対する化学圧力と静水圧の違いを比較した。興味深いことに、圧力はNTEの抑制と増強を制御するために使用することができた。電子状態計算から、圧力がFermiレベル(EF)に対する主要バンドの上部に影響を与えたことを示しており、これは磁気安定性に影響を与え、それが磁気とNTEを調節する上で重要な役割を果たしていることがわかった。本研究は、圧力の影響を理解し、それを利用して機能性材料の特性を制御する良い例を示している。

Magnetic properties of Tb$$_5$$Sb$$_3$$ are reported. Unlike previous investigations on a polycrystal showing multiple phase transitions, the present single crystal sample shows a single transition 133 K. It is also shown that the magnetic hysteresis increases at low temperatures.

de Haas-van Alphen oscillation was successfully observed in an unconventional superconductor UTe$$_2$$ using high-quality single crystals. From this observation, Fermi surfaces of this compound were determined to be cylinders elongated along the c-direction, in consistent with theoretical expectation. However, the extremely large cyclotron effective masses ranging 32 to 57 m$$_0$$, in consistent with the electronic specific heat, far exceed calculated values.

Single crystals of the unconventional superconductor UTe$$_2$$ have been grown in various conditions. Superconducting samples are nearly stoichiometric within an experimental error of about 1%, while non-superconducting sample significantly deviates from the ideal composition. The superconducting UTe$$_2$$ showed that the large density of states was partially gapped in the normal state, while the non-superconducting sample is characterized by the relatively large electronic specific heat as reported previously.

Low-energy electronic structures of CeSb which shows multiple phase transitions known as devil's staircase were examined by combination of laser angle-resolved photoemission, Raman and neutron scattering spectroscopies. A new type of electron-boson coupling between the mobile electrons and quadrupole CEF-excitations of the 4f orbitals was found. The coupling is exceedingly strong and exhibits anomalous step-like enhancement during the devil's staircase transition, unveiling a new type of quasiparticle, named multipole polaron.

The electronic structure of $$mathrm{ThPd_2Al_3}$$, which is isostructural to the heavy fermion superconductor $$mathrm{UPd_2 Al_3}$$, was investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy. The band structure and Fermi surfaces of $$mathrm{ThPd_2Al_3}$$ were obtained by angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), and the results were well-explained by the band-structure calculation based on the local density approximation. The comparison between the ARPES spectra and the band-structure calculation suggests that the Fermi surface of $$mathrm{ThPd_2Al_3}$$ mainly consists of the $$mathrm{Al}~3p$$ and $$mathrm{Th}~6d$$ states with a minor contribution from the $$mathrm{Pd}~4d$$ states. The comparison of the band structures between $$mathrm{ThPd_2Al_3}$$ and $$mathrm{UPd_2Al_3}$$ argues that the $$mathrm{U}~5f$$ states form Fermi surfaces in $$mathrm{UPd_2Al_3}$$ through hybridization with the $$mathrm{Al}~3p$$ state in the $$mathrm{Al}$$ layer, suggesting that the Fermi surface of $$mathrm{UPd_2Al_3}$$ has a strong three-dimensional nature.

A uranium intermetallic compound U$$_2$$Pt$$_6$$Ga$$_{15}$$ was successfully synthesized. This compound crystallizes in the hexagonal Sc$$_{0.6}$$Fe$$_2$$Si$$_{4.9}$$-type structure. Antiferromagnetic transition with highly magnetic anisotropy was established by the physical property measurements.

Energy-dependent angular distribution of individual $$gamma$$ rays in the $$^{139}$$La($$n, gamma$$)$$^{140}$$La$$^{ast}$$ reaction

Neutron energy-dependent angular distributions were observed for individual $$gamma$$ rays from the 0.74 eV $$p$$-wave resonance of $$^{139}$$La+$$n$$ to several lower excited states of $$^{140}$$La. The $$gamma$$-ray signals were analyzed in a two dimensional histogram of the $$gamma$$-ray energy, measured with distributed germanium detectors, and neutron energy, determined with the time-of-flight of pulsed neutrons, to identify the neutron energy dependence of the angular distribution for each individual $$gamma$$ rays. The angular distribution was also found for a photopeak accompanied with a faint $$p$$-wave resonance component in the neutron energy spectrum. Our results can be interpreted as interference between $$s$$- and $$p$$-wave amplitudes which may be used to study discrete symmetries of fundamental interactions.

Alloying study of ferromagnetic superconductors URhGe and UCoGe is reported. The Curie temperature shows a maximum at Rh concentration $$x$$ = 0.4 in UCo$$_{1-x}$$Rh$$_x$$Ge. Magnetic characteristices in low- and high-$$x$$ regions are significantly different each other. The relationship between magnetism and superconductivity are discussed.

Single crystal samples of EuCu$$_5$$ and EuAu$$_5$$ have been successfully prepared. Using those samples, magnetic and electronic anisotropy has been clarified. Magnetic moment in the ferromagnetic state points to the hexagonal $$c$$-axis for both compounds. Electronic anisotropy was found in both electrical resistivity and Fermi surface topology. These anisotropic characteristics are accounted for by the unique hexagonal structure.

Single crystals of EuCu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ have been grown by the flux method and Bridgman method. The Eu ions of the Bridgman-grown crystal are nearly trivalent and fluctuate depending on the temperature. On the other hand, the Eu ions of flux-grown sample are divalent and thermally stable and show spin-glass behavior at low temperatures. Crystallographic analyses identified random replacement of Cu sites by Si only for the flux-grown samples. Such structural randomness leads to spin-glass features.

Structural characterization and magnetic behavior of uranium compound U$$_2$$Pt$$_6$$Al$$_{15}$$

Crystal structure and magnetic property of U$$_2$$Pt$$_6$$Al$$_{15}$$ is investigated. A single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment identified the hexagonal unit cell with a disordered structure in the uranium containing layer. A series of superstructure reflections were found. They are successfully indexed as ($$h$$/3 $$k$$/3 0), however, with a streak along the $$l$$ direction. A layered structure model containing honeycomb arrangement of uranium atoms is proposed. Preliminary magnetization measurements on a polycrystalline sample are also presented.

EuPtSi with the cubic chiral structure exhibits a skyrmion phase under magnetic field. We succeeded in growing high-quality single crystals by the Bridgman method. Fermi surface splitting reflecting the noncentrosymmetric structure was successfully observed experimentally.

Ferromagnetic ordering of EuCuP is investigated on a single crystal sample grown from tin flux. Application of hydrostatic pressure up to 8 GPa stabilizes ferromagnetic ordering, suggesting divalent Eu is stable. The Hall effect and resistivity measurements show that EuCuP is a low-carrier ferromagnetic metal with a characteristic resistivity cusp appearing at the ferromagnetic transition temperature.

Dc magnetization measurements have been performed on the orthorhombic Ising ferromagnet Urge. We observed a clear first-order reorientation transition with a small hysteresis and estimated the tricritical point to be around 4 K. The magnetization and the thermal expansion data indicate the presence of a characteristic temperature of about 1 K.

Anomalous Hall effect in a triangular-lattice antiferromagnet UNi$$_4$$B

We report the Hall effect measurements on a triangular-lattice antiferromagnet UNi$$_4$$B in the context of the proposed relevance of the ferroic order. Our measurements show that the Hall voltage is proportional to the square of the electric current and its coefficient increases significantly below the transition temperature, which supports the theoretical prediction.

The crystal structure of the newly discovered compound U$$_3$$TiBi$$_9$$ was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. This compound shows an antiferromagnetic ordering at 31.5 K. A clear anomaly was observed at the transition temperature on the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity.

Radiation-induced degradation of aqueous 2-chlorophenol assisted by zeolites

放射線を利用した水環境汚染物質の分解処理をゼオライトによる固相抽出を用いて効率化する可能性を探索するため、2-クロロフェノール(2-ClPh)をモデル物質としてゼオライト共存下での放射線誘起反応を研究した。3種のゼオライトを比較した結果、Si/Al比率の高いゼオライト(HMOR)を用いることで2-ClPhの放射線による分解反応を効率化できることを明らかにした。HMORは疎水性を示すゼオライトであり、水溶液中の2-ClPhに対して優れた吸着能を示した。この吸着能を利用してHMORに2-ClPhを濃縮してから$$gamma$$線を照射することで、2-ClPhの脱塩素反応が高効率で進むことが分かった。この固相抽出による反応効率の向上は、水溶液を10倍濃縮することに相当した。これは、2-ClPhが高濃度に吸着したことで、HMORが$$gamma$$線から吸収したエネルギーが効率よく分解反応に使われたためと考えられる。
